If you were only permitted to give a single hint to a prospective MAist, what would it be?

To start things off, here's mine-

Relax - if it takes too much strength, you're doing it wrong.

Do not think, feel and keep the movements flowing into each other.

Right, because knowing and learning the movements magically happens. Whether you rely on feeling and flow or not, you still have to think. Seriously, what are you going to do when your opponent is not touching you? Feel the air? Sure you can sense rhythm and timing, but this requires a certain thought process, and this is called thinking.

Next time your training, pay attention to how much you think when your feeling. Youll be surprised.

Don't get caught up in the issue of length of training versus advancement. It shouldn't be day 10 of training or day 333, it is just another day and take what comes.

Get beyond fear.

Fear of asking questions, fear of disappointing the instructor, fear of being hit, fear of the unkown, fear of change, fear of the new, fear of uncharted territory, fear of being stigmatized, fear of not fitting in with the thoughts of clan/tribe, or fear of expressing honestly what you feel is inside of you.

Because, in my mind, until you manage to make that leap in conciousness everything you will be doing up until then will simply be for the process of eventually doing so.

I have to: just think as them as separate posts:

Keep an open mind, don't rule anything out completely.

Practice, so that when a situation arises, you don't have to think, you do it automatically.
