Punching bag inqury (heavy bag) - 04/04/07 01:37 PM

I recently hung a canvas punching bag (from a frame) to strike. However, the bag is only 40 lbs ! When i hit this it swings right into the stand.

Any tips on adding more weight to the bag? I know that pros use small bags of sand inside the bag...

HOWEVER: Is the bag strong enough to hold more sand without ripping the botom? It is a canvas everlast heavybag.

Also there is no tiedown ring on the botom of the bag, any idea how to 'make one'

With more weight you shouldnt need a tie down. Inside the Everlast I have is lots and lots of cotton. The bag is strong enough that you could take some in and substitute sand. Its more work, but I would put the sand in the bottom, then the packing(cotton) on top. That way its harder for it to swing out. Also sand is a little less forgiving and you probably dont want to punch it.

You can by sand in 20 pound bags at Lowes or home Depot. Drop them in a trash bag and go for it. I wouldnt add too much though.

with the sand on botom does that basically rule out kicking then?
