Daito-ryu in PA, March 29 & 30, 2002 - 01/25/02 09:11 AM

Okabayashi Shogen, founder and chief instructor of the Daito-ryu Hakuho Kai in Osaka, Japan, returns to the Itten Dojo in central Pennsylvania on March 29th and 30th, 2002, for seminars devoted to aikijujutsu. Our first visit from Okabayashi Sensei in the fall of 2000 was an event none of us will ever forget, and we expect just as wonderful an experience this time around. Two sessions are planned: Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm and Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Registration fees are $40 for one day, or $75 for both sessions.

Okabayashi Sensei studied Daito-ryu under both Hisa Takuma and Takeda Tokimune, receiving from the former a kyoju-dairi (teaching license) and from the latter a shihan-level license, as well as a menkyo in Ono-ha Itto-ryu (Sokaku-den) kenjutsu. Believing that some modern schools of martial arts go astray by incorporating present-day body mechanics to ancient techniques, Okabayashi Sensei founded the Hakuho Kai in order to research and preserve the classical forms of the Daito-ryu.

A flier describing the seminar and containing a registration form can be downloaded in Adobe Acrobat format from www.ittendojo.org/downloads/daito.pdf.

In addition, a report on the 2000 seminar visit is available at www.ittendojo.org/articles/news-3.htm, and the text of a lecture by Okabayashi Sensei, "Capturing the Absolute Moment", can be viewed at www.ittendojo.org/articles/absolute.htm. Elsewhere on the site, information on our dojo and directions to our location are provided. I can be contacted at ittendojocho@cs.com. />
