Watching Karate Kid on dvd - 07/24/06 06:50 PM

Got it at Wal-mart for $6! I just had to share, if you have it go watch the scene where he gets in a fight on the soccer (or football for our friends across the pond) field. He shoots the double leg on a Cobra Kai and punches him in the face! Gracie Jujitsu for the win! The coach, however, hates grappling and so banishes Larusso from the field.

If I heard the commentary correctly, they originally had Mifune in mind for Mr. Miyagi's role but decided he was too scary...is Mifune still alive?

Wiki says there are two that may apply. Wiki also says no.

The Miyagi stunt and fight work was done by Fumio Demura.

Karate do 'yes' OK.
Karate do 'no' OK.
Karate do 'guess so' Squish!-like grape.

I saw parts 1-3 back to back on a special ticket in my old local cinema. Great day.

I love that movie. You know...what is wrong with a motivational movie?

Better get yourself the second movie as it was defeated and a new undefeatable move shown to the masses. Something to do with a drum and beads bouncing back and forth while twisting the drum in the hand.

I know! But I actually really like the score from the first movie though. Bill Conti, the composer, is convinced no one will buy it, so there is no point in relasing it.

You can get bootlegs of it apparently. But I wouldn't know anything about that....

Anyway, here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NfkH3Q4JOQ&search=karate%20kid

Always thought the fight scences were quite well done in the first one.

Love the takedown for the second point!

I was always a little upset that Pat Morita didn't really sound like Mr. Miyagi.

I just finished watching The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977) and noticed Fumio Demura's name in the credits. He played the "hyena man".

Re: Watching Karate Kid on dvd - 09/21/06 09:22 AM

Crablord, just to slow things down for you ... Ralph Macchio ... the main character in the Karate Kid series ... lives near them ... and he has put on considerable weight. Shotokantrainee was just providing some trivia. Maybe useless trivia to some but something they felt providing and others may like to know. Take it easy will ya!

I think that counts as a personal attack... Calm it down bro, no need for that.
