the only regret you should have in life is having regrets

Think about this as it is an amazing quote.

With regards to MA, if sparring, if you see the target open, go for it, don't think about it afterwards: i should have went for that!

In other words, If the opportunity arises, take it.

The only time you should look down on someone is when you're gonna give 'em a helping hand up.

If you want a helping hand - it's there on the end of your arm

When startled, step forwards

Before you criticise someone, walk a mile in their shoes.... because then you're a mile away and you've got their shoes!

Not just for trainig but for life generally, my favourite two are:

Life is not measured by the amount of breaths you take, but rather by the moments that take your breath away.

It is better regret the things you have done than the things you have not.

Just some fun quotes from the Suerhero spoof film, Film Mystery Men:

"You all must become more like the Wolf-Pack, not the Six-Pack."

"He who questions training, only trains himself at asking questions."

"The Wise man knows, he is weakest, when he thinks himself strong."

My Favourite, and most appropriate one, relates to a conversation to the "Shoveller" who fights (badly), with just a shovel as a weapon:

The Sphinx: "How many weapons do you wield?"
The Shoveller: "Just one, Sphinx".
The Sphinx: "No. The Fist, the knee, the elbow, the head...You must lash out with every limb, like the Octopus who plays the drums".

Re: quotes to train by ? - 07/26/04 01:35 AM

I like quotes and use them as a great tool for insight and such. Here are a few I like/use:

Skill and wisdom gained through self-cultivation can never be shaken.

Become an empty mirror for your opponent.

Be as deceptive as the calm in the eye of the hurrican/storm.

Cease to be reactive, instead live in creative harmony.

What you do today will become tommorrows conditions.

Your ability to truly express art comes only from knowingness and not from knowledge.

Know transition, therefore your body becomes one and encompasses all forms.

Know all stances, yet use none. Do not telegraph your intent unless it is mind deception/deflection you seek.

Use a drill to instill a skill. Learn the skill and forget the drill. (You fight with your skill and not your drill.)

Moving, be like water. Still, be like a mirror. Respond like an echo.

It is futile to argue as to which single leaf, which design of branches or which attractive flower you like, when you understand the root, you understand all its blossoming.

Seek the root in all things.

Humbly,

Too many mind. Mind the sword, mind face, mind the people watching. Too many mind The last samurai.

Meaning:Remained focused on what you are doing. Do not worry about what is going on around you. put all your energy into what is now. Do not think about who is watching you, or about those bills you forgot to pay. You have plenty of time to think about that later.

A friend told me that quote before my first kung fu belt testing, and proceeded to tell me not to worry about who is watching, just do it the way I practiced. It helped me relax.

Get up 8.
(Persistance is the key

The trick to flying is to aim at the ground, and miss.
(Instead of looking at a goal as impossible, find a way around to meet that goal.)

Practice, practice, practice.
(Practice makes perfect.)

You will always fight with your head up, and when you fall down you wil always stand up, and when you lose you will always keep your heart up.
(Always keep a positive outlook, and never get discouraged.)
