Shoulder/Trapezius (Boxing) - 09/08/06 10:59 AM

Hey guys i`ve been having this tired muscle/pinching uncomfortableness in my right shoulder/trapezius for like a month now.. it feels like its sore or something... I`ve been punching my heavy bag, so its the right straight i guess that is causing this pain... i`m not sure why.. could this be inproper mechanics? i recently moved from 80 pound to 130 pound bag.. i weight 160 pounds could it be cause because of the heavyness of the new bag? what do you guys think???

If it has been lasting for that long you need to hit the doctor's office. It could be a pinched nerve, or a torn muscle in your shoulder. Have it checked out just to rule the more serious things out.

If you think you are simply overworking it, take a few weeks off and see if the pain goes away when you start back up. Also, vary your routine a bit.

hey Borrek.. thanks for a reply.. You know its a bit weird it come and it goes away.. it does feel worse after a heavy bag session... but then in few days it goes away untill i start doing heavy bag again... If i`m not mistaken I`ve had this pain coming and going away for years.. i remember i think it started of when i was doing push ups and one day it started hurting me... but with time it went away.. comes back when i work out... I don`t think its a serious condition but its annoying..i just hope it won`t go worse... i`ve read somewhere that somebody was working out like that and felt a pain in the similar spot and one day he got paralised or something... i woulnt want that man.. but i hate going to my doctor because it takes long time before i get millions of referalls for specialist and for and MRI or something.... i hate this stupid system..

To me it sounds like a lack of shoulder and upper back flexibility - when you hit the heavier bag, your shoulder engagement is greater and therefore the impact requires greater flexibility to absorb. Start doing some good static stretching, 10-20 minutes a day, for this area. Hold each stretch for 40 seconds and do it 4-6 times. Usual Trapezius, Deltoid and Lat stretches. Meanwhile, try to get a doctor's appointment.

I had a similar problem and I ignored it for a long time, but this year it just kept getting worse. I finally went to the dr and I have a torn rotator cuff, bursitis and impingement. Now I can't do anything. I do TKD and I'm a boxing trainer. I can't spar, I can't do grabs that may jerk my shoulder, I can't even hold the mits for my fighters till I get this all taken care of. So I'd say get it checked out asap.

go to the Dr. it may be a muscle impingement like somebody else said. there are exercises you can do to strenghten the inner fibers of the shoulder muscles that will notonly stenghten your muscle but will also alevate the pain
