Sword is usually near 1 meter long. Can't be simpler than that. If you want it in inches or japanese measures, contact me by email.

im doing the wushu jian shu...the sword length is typically (if your grasping it upside down with the back of your hand) it shld reach your tip of your ear..
thats the ideal length so that u wont touch the ceiling nor hit the floor.
Within Japanese sword arts it varies by as much as 4 to 5 inches depending on style. So as has been mentioned before, ask your instructor.

If you relax your sword arm with the tip of the sword near yout little toe, normally the sword should be around 1-2 inches off the ground, this is a good guide, but agree with others here, ask your Sensei.
If I do that, my kissaki touches the ground a few inches in front of my foot. Like I said. It varies quite a bit from one school to the next.
