A compliment for the Sword Arts - 01/08/07 02:30 PM
Hello, first a disclaimer: I practice MJER Iaijutsu but I think my compliment could probably apply to any sword art.
I am complimenting the sword arts for their honesty regarding what they do. Because you will never walk down the street wearing your sword intending to use it. The sword arts are very honest in that the teachers tell you up front that you will never use what you are learning on the street. Which is unlike alot of martial arts that claim to be the best at self-defense or being "more" traditional and that they destroy every other art.
However the mental aspects of the sword arts such as the focus, concentration, discipline, and precision that comes with learning them are themselves useful not only in non-sword self-defense but relationships, your job, and just life in general.
That is my compliment to the Sword Arts.
