Loggin in from inside a thread

Loggin in from inside a thread - 04/05/07 09:47 PM

It would be nice if you could browse without logging in and then log in from inside the thread without having to go through the indexes to get back to where you were. There are a lot of times when I'm just browsing and get to something interesting in the threads, and lose my place when I go out to log in.

I don't know if that can be changed, but I will pass this along to the webmaster.

How about the fact that when i search a thread it hardly ever works, or then says "you cant make a search at this time. Try again later"

How about a log in function from the home screen, instead of having to go to the forums, then logging in?

Not a bad idea. I will check with the webmaster to see if that can be done.

I have what programmers call: "a workaround fix".

here's what you do... your scenario of being in a thread when you aren't logged in.

when you are in the thread, and want to login without losing your place:

1. your browser menu, select file->new window.

2. login using the new window.

3. switch back to the first window and hit 'refresh'.

tada!

Also instead of clicking File-->New-->Window, you can press Control-N and it does the same thing. Little keyboard shortcut I use a lot.

Or...

Hold the shift key and click on "Login" will open the login screen (or whatever link you click) in a new window.

Would it aslo work if you had Internet Explorer 7.0? If you were browsing the forums and saw a thread that you wanted to respond to open another tab to the FA site, log in then hit refresh and go back to the first tab and be logged in? Does that make sense? I hope so because I'm not all that computer savvy and don't think I could explain it another way.

Ok yeah the way I just said to do it also works. I have this website stored in my favorites and so it was pretty easy.
