Back to Tibet this week:

Monk Dancers of Tibet - by Matthieu Ricard

Wild Awakening: The Heart of Mahamudra and Dzogchen - by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche

(Hmmm...it seems that my readings are less 'cultural' and more about mind/perception. Maybe there should be a similar thread in the Zen/Med forum?)

Good for a beginner (like me) ...seperate essays about the history of koans, significant people and koans, and how/why they are important in Zen.

Of the dozen or so things at the moment, the one pertinent to this forum would be 'The Story of the 47 Ronin'. Trying to finish before the DVD set arrives. Good story.

The thing is with the book of the five rings there are four (or more) translations, Ive read two of them (cant remember who wrote them though).

Ive one where it reads in the fire chapter "body of a rocky crag" and read another where it as "body of a rocky wall" and both only say it is an oral tradition.

According to my teacher who has the original, correct translations, it should only be "body of a rock" and there should be a paragraph underneath explaoning the meaning.

Acording to my teacher, there are other things the other translations fail to neglect such as "muninmuso" and other inaccurate tranlations such as peircing the bottom witch is actually peircing the depths.
