White Crane Joint Locking with Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming in NYC - 04/14/04 08:29 AM

Southern White Crane is recognized as a forefather of Karate and one of the styles specialties is "Qinna" (Chin Na) - joint locking.

Many of the "hidden" applications of Karate are joint locking techniques. Here is an opportunity to learn from Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming - a recognized master of Qinna techniques.

Experience firsthand the results of his 43 years of practice and research in this range of combat. Though considered an "external style", Southern White Crane as taught by Dr. Yang is surprisingly soft, yet fast and powerful.

Spend 12 intense hours with Dr. Yang exploring the principles that make a Qinna technique and return home with an enhanced knowledge of this aspect of the roots of karate bunkai.

Sunday May 23, 2004
9:00a-5:00p (lunch 12:00p-2:00p)

12 hours of class time

Qinna = "Seize and Control" and is known for its effectiveness in restraining opponents. You will learn to defend against grabs, holds and chokes. Minimum force is used, relying instead on superior knowledge of leverage, momentum, angulation, redirection, pressure points and joint-lock methods. This style of qinna emphasizes the use of the body, as opposed to muscular tension, to generate power. Relaxation and the coordination of the waist is especially emphasized for beginners.

This will be an intense, 12-hour, seminar...90% hands-on. We attract a good group of people and tend to have a lot of fun. The seminar is relaxed, with a focus on truly learning the method and getting a feeling for Dr. Yang's personal technique. Be prepared to practice.

The seminar is split into levels 1, 2, 3 & 4. Each group will spend the entire 12 hours of class time in their own level. Dr. Yang personally instructs Level 1, while Levels 2, 3 & 4 are taught by his senior instructors. Everyone who has yet to study with Dr. Yang, regardless of previous qinna experience, begins at Level 1. If you have previous qinna (or other joint-locking) experience, you will be able to focus upon Dr. Yang's personal technique. Beginners will learn the mechanics necessary, as well as experience the correct feeling sought after. Our participants range from beginners to instructors and study/teach martial styles ranging from Aikido, Jujitsu, Goju-ryu, Kenpo, Muay Thai, Western Boxing & Krav Maga to Hungga, Wing Chun, Northern Mantis, Baji, Yingjowpai, Taijiquan & Baguazhang.

New York and Boston are the only locations in the world where Dr. Yang offers the Qinna Intensives. Dr. Yang's next Qinna series will not be until November 13-14, 2004. This seminar series is a prerequisite for Dr. Yang's Qinna Instructor Certification. This seminar will prepare you for Qinna Intensive Levels 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 on November 13-14 - many of our Qinna Intensive participants return to continue to deepen their training.
