Kissaki bunkai clips - 09/29/08 08:45 AM

Just enjoyed a superb course with Vince Morris this weekend, mostly focused on Kanku/Kushanku applications against empty hand, knife and a couple of different stick attacks. Below are some clips of Kissaki bunkai for Kanku, Nijushiho and Bassai:

I love that first one. So many people do this technique and never quite grasp that upward pop that should happen under the arm. Most make it look like they're just hugging their attacker's arm and showing them how to apply an easy RNC. Good stuff.

Yes, a lot of the throws start with something, a strike or a pinch of the skin say, to get a reaction so that the person being thrown actually moves their weight in the right direction to aid the throw. Also, a lot of the throws have the intention of locking up the arms of the person thrown so they cannot breakfall and land on their head or back of the neck, nasty and effective but obviously impossible to practice with a partner at speed.

There are DVDs on Nijushiho, Bassai, Enpi, Kanku, Aragaki Seisan and Tekki Shodan and I think one on Kissaki basics. I have the kata based ones and they are excellent. Vince should be paying me commission!

Awesome! I visited Sensei Vince Morris' website plenty of times and I have seen one of his Kissaki-Kai tapes, one of the basic ones "Kissaki-Kai Karate-Do", I believe it was called. It really opened my eyes to what Karate really could be, as opposed to what my Sensei limited it to. I think that it is cool that you are promoting his stuff or getting the word out. He may pay you commission if you meet him in person .

We are a Kissaki club and I saw him Saturday ten days ago for a course but unfortunately I paid him! Still it was a very good session, mostly on Kanku Dai and I bought his Tekki dvd. I train with him whenever he comes back to the UK if I can.

He is based outside Philadelphia so not a million miles from you. I cannot remember if he has a club closer to Maryland-I will have a look.

That's cool, Barad! I would love to train with him, myself. I really like his take on the kata bunkai and he has some really nasty applications for even the most basic of techniques. It must have been a real treat to have trained with him in person. You paid, but you probably got more than your money's worth .
