High kicks - 09/04/06 09:49 PM

This video was emailed to me today showing that when a high kick can land, how devastating it can be ( of course most of us already know this but it is a cool video anyway). Now to just find out how to kick that high . Cool site also.

I pride myself on a great side kick but lately I noticed myself throwing alot of roundkicks. High kicks should not be ignored but then again they are not neccessary.

Some good knockdowns on there.

My favourite "high-kick thrower" is Cro-cop. It's a shame that they were all muay thai matches, since it would have been nice to have seen him on there. An example of using high kicks effectively against grapplers.

Huh?

If they are not necessary, why not ignore them? I use them regularly. They have to be set up right and can never be a lead off technique but if you can slide one in after setting them up with hands or low kicks, it can be a fight ender in a hurry. I use them mostly from the blind sides after setting them up with hand techniques.

I like high kicks, especially against tall opponents who dont think you can kick them in the head. It shakes up their game a little.

It takes a lot of patience and streaching. I've been able to kick to all of the guys heads in my class for a number of years. Even after I had kids I didn't really lose any of my flexibility. Just be patient it's not going to happen over night.

There are a lot of intense KO's in that clip, but the video also shows how difficult it can be to maintain balance after making contact.

I have two kids and my flexibility is still the same?
Oh, you mean .......never mind.

It is funny, everybody knows that Cro Cop kicks to the head but they still get caught with it. Ouch.
