Re: POLL - Styles repesented V: 2.0 - 05/30/06 12:01 PM

Hello Matt:

Attempted to view the poll results and was transferred to a new wondow. It had the background color from the original post but was otherwise completely blank...

Is there a problem with the results window, or something on our settings? How do we tell please?

I sure hope not. I did this poll with no viewing/voting restrictions, unlike the last one.

Works fine for me.

I'm not an IT person but double check your string, maybe it fell of the can. Or maybe somebody is playing a cruel joke and the other can is not hooked up.

The string must be taut or it won't work.

I couldn't select more than one which is a shame since there were crossovers with internal and weapons.

Excellent Poll, It gives an Idea of who trains in what, Korean Arts tend to have a slightly higher percentage. I wonder what the reasons are.

It might not be true today, but I remember hearing, at one time, that TKD is the most practised martial art in the world. That might have to do with the skew in the poll.

Timing? After the Korean War, a lot of Koreans and also GIs who picked up TKD over there came to the States and started teaching. Plus, I have to admit their organizational skills and penchant for entertaining the young while teaching them exceeds just about every Okinawan/Japanese dojo I've seen

Should've added an "other" column for those of us who dont practice any form or style or system. Like me for example I teach and train in defensive training which is a mixture of defensive tactics and basic civilian self defense. I also do another form of combat but it's considered a martial personal philosophy.

So its a system. As soon as you make something coherent enought to teach, it becomes a system. What you are saying is that your 'system' does not affiliate, or feel close to any formalised traditional 'Martial art' per se, but it will have links by default with many aspects of any formalised method of physical combat. They all contain certain commonalities- there are only so many ways to throw a strike at someone.
If it is an art that you have 'created' yourself, then you must have trained in other styles to come to the conclusions you have regarding what you feel best to teach, therefore, your system has a lineage. Everything comes from something.

Re: POLL - Styles repesented V: 2.0 - 01/22/08 11:44 PM

should have Included an "other" option, I agree with ddoa01.

or maybe a non stylized self defence option (or no stylised RBSD), i use what ever works and I don't care if it comes from Japan or Jupiter.

What I teach is based on my experience and research, I could literally tick most of the options given. (aprox 2/3rds) with a half of them being tick if I'm being conservative.

my style is Non style specific RBSD, I'm tempted to copyright the term "freestyle RBSD" it pretty well covers it.

Re: POLL - Styles repesented V: 2.0 - 01/23/08 03:20 PM

I had intended the "Combatives" or "Eclectic MA" options to represent RBSD in all it's various forms.
