Putting A face To the Name!! - 11/01/05 05:16 PM

I was wondering who would be brave enough to post their pics so that we can put a name to some faces! Now dont be shy!! Ill go first!

This is a pic of me my wife and 3 month old child. (Just to clarify I am the one with the beard). We were wearing traditional indian garments in celebration of deepawali, the hindu festival of light!! 50% of the population of fiji are girmitiya Indians, transported by her majesty queen victoria to work the cane fields!

What a lovely pic. And such a beautiful child.
Thanks for sharing. If you trawl through some of the older threads, you might find oldman's Hoodat II thread. Many of us have already shared our mugshots (some not as photogenic as yours).

Re: Putting A face To the Name!! - 11/01/05 09:05 PM

About almost 20% of Malaysians are sub-continent Indians and so we too as a nation celebrated Deepavali yesterday, which was a public holiday.

To-morrow we as a nation also celebrate Hari Raya, an Islamic festival which marks the end of Ramadan, after a month long of fasting from sunrise to sunset.

All this means we have a few days of national holiday for the whole of this week.

Looking at your pic I can almost smell the spicy cooking in the kitchen.

Is this your first child? Whats his name?

A pic of me? Honestly I've no idea how its done. Let me get some lessons from my daughter first.

Unlike Oldman and some others ... I can't post pics but here is a link to a bigger picture Oldman has. It is a picture of my wife and myself at my work's 2004 Christmas Party. I shaved off the goatee ... but shortly grew it back. I'm a little ... moderately ... very ... extremely intoxicated and hence why the goofy face.

It's not a mod thing, when you're making the post you have to change the selection from "using UBBCode" to "using HTML and UBBCode" That should make it work.

there's actually three feet missing from the end of that short stick. It's 12ft long. I hadn't put the frangible tip in when the pic was taken.

Glad everyone likes the pic of my new sparring gear! It's pretty heavy - about 35kg or so.

I am getting some new legs and arms shortly so will look a bit more splendid once I get my hands on this armour permanently and can give it a good clean and polish.

very funny.

No the armourer is making me some new arm and leg harnesses that fit properly.

This set was made for him and altho I'm a lot taller and have longer arms and legs than he does, its too big in some areas and needed a lot of adjustment, so he's making new ones instead. Plus some of it is to be spring steel now to cut down on the weight.

I'm also getting a new helm as the one I tried was too big and I couldnt see properly out of the occularium.

Even the Trolls are invited. They naturally will be staying at the Orc Hotel, which incidently was designed by Golum and built with recycled material salvaged from the land of Mordor.

I've also planned some entertainment. It'll be a re-enactment of a battle scene and every one gets to choose their favourite part.

I think its unanimous, however, that Gandalf be reserved for Oldman and I, as the organising chairperson, SHALL be playing Viggo

All the Trolls WILL of course be playing the Orcs.

Given the vast membership of this Forum, we can have a cast of thousands!!!

Re: Putting A face To the Name!! - 11/04/05 08:46 AM

Believe it or not twenty years ago you never heard of grappling/ground fighting unless you were with a certain click. "Hapkido, Tang Soo Do & TKD were tought on the military bases in Oson & Seoul air forse bases in Korea to all the American GI's way back when. My instructor instructor (Ki Yung Yi) brought it to the US back in the early 70's and that is where I learned my base style. Our classes were half Tang Soo and the other half was Hapkido. Classes began with kicking drills up and down the Dojang and when he was done torchoring us the Hapkido began. Remember at the time there was no Gracies, no UFC or MMA just Chuck Norris, Benny and Superfoot so the ground work really wasn't promoted yet. Hapkido is a mix of Japanese Aikido and Korean style kicking, that is why you see such beautiful circular throws and high kicks combined in one art. There are many wrist and joint lock that are executed as well. The entire time we learned the two arts never was there any type of rolling around on the ground trying to submit your opponent, never....just throw'm down and lock'm up! As for high kicks, of course it was a Korean MA. The only weapon that I personally was tought was the Bo, we did do a lot of breaking too. Hope that answered some of your questions, would be glad to discuss it more if you wish.

Hi Shanne. What you explained is pretty much the same for my own Instructor with Taekwondo and Hapkido. His Master from Korea came to Canada and followed the same format that he taught to the Korean and US Marines. To further compliment this my own Instructor incorporated JJJ and BJJ which fortunately for myself and the other students he teaches benefits us greatly.

Reading your post just reflected a lot of my own training but unlike yourself I have just little over 3+ years in. I hope that I can look back 20 years from now and smile like yourself.

As most people do not like to see pictures of an oldman (oldman as in elderly, not as in the oldman) I thought a picture taken when I was voted male model of the year (for children's wear) would be more...eh...more interesting, I hope

I was actually smiling, but the photographer said models do not smile, and I was to give that "look back in anger" look.

You know what, Oldman? You should do a Hoodat with...family...pets. Guess who's pet belongs to whom?

Alright, stupid idea.

What's that green slime, a new ingredient?

Very cool. Model, even! Swarthy good looks and chilling deadliness all wrapped up in one. And I sense that your evasion skills are even better.......

Guilty as charged

That'll be too easy; all pet-owners look like their pets.

Butterflypalm -

So...a current picture, then?

PS - Please consider turning on your PM's? I would love the oppurtunity to pick your brain a bit. Apologies for my bald faced public pandering.

Much as I would like to showcase my adult / old "swarthy good looks", a current picture requires security clearance; I am still serving out my "DPP" -- de-briefing protocal period. I'll try and work out something.

PM? That's my other problem; some other "people" get to read them as well.

You must have some pretty 'good' questions to want to ask someone with such deadly evasive skills

But your thinking my brain is worth picking is most gratifying, seriously.

So you noticed, did you?

For this particular thread, seeing how you 'finished off' those cinder blocks makes people think twice about messing with you; as for me, I am HOT, though the thread 'died' for a while until you came along and rescued it; THANKS.

Can we have a picture of you actually wearing a black belt? assuming you passed; if not, this thread will still be here until you do.

You shouldn't practice breaking techniques on expensive things like cameras, try tables instead. Most forum members are accustomed to bashing their heads on their tables, seems to work.....

*shudder*

What a deadly look...those eyes..calculating and cold...ready to spring on you without warning...

Anyone with a strong stomach and an airsick bag can view my personage in the Dave Meyer seminar thread...

Ranger is very thankful Oldman has not made a Ranger cartoon character

It's pretty good, Oldman. Nose is a bit flatter, and more crooked in real life. But it's pretty close!
